WA’s Largest Rooftop Solar Array Project Announced

Big things are continuing to happen on the Western Australian commercial solar scene – a new project will soon grab the title of the largest rooftop solar panel system in the state.

Broadway Fair Ltd, owner of the iconic Broadway Fair Shopping Centre Crawley has announced what will be Perth and Western Australia’s largest rooftop solar array.

The 310 kW solar panel system will consist of 950 high efficiency solar panels and produce enough clean electricity to provide over 30% of Broadway Fair’s usage – the equivalent of powering 70 energy efficient homes.

The array will be installed at the same time as a new roof on the Centre.

Paul Avon-Smith, General Manager of Broadway Fair, said Centre management had been working in partnership with national commercial solar provider Energy Matters  for over 12 months to design and implement the new array.

“The solar and re-roofing project is currently being assessed by Subiaco council and Western Power – we look forward to making a start on the project in the next couple of months and expect the project to be complete well before summer”.

The re-roofing and solar project will be undertaken by local builder W. Fairweather and Son Pty Ltd and Energy Matters’ local partner Infinite Energy.

“Peter Fairweather’s grandfather built the Broadway fair shopping centre, his father helped maintain the centre and now Peter is the third generation to look after the Centre – so it seems right that Fairweather will be doing the complex re-roofing project,” Mr Avon-Smith said.

“Fairweather have developed a comprehensive plan for removing the old tiles and installing the new roof – so we expect only minimal inconvenience to shoppers throughout the 6-8 weeks of the re-roof and solar construction.”

The Broadway Fair project will be Energy Matters’ second recent major commercial solar installation in Perth says Richard Johnston of Energy Matters.

“Working with the folks at Broadway Fair has been a pleasure and we are looking forward to helping many more businesses like Broadway Fair to provide clean energy solutions for their tenants and reducing growing pressure on existing infrastructure. It is as much about good business as doing their bit for the environment.”
