The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Xantrex Technology Inc., have announced a voluntary recall of some Xantrex solar inverter models sold in the USA and Canada. Units sold in Australia are not affected.

National solar solutions company Energy Matters contacted the company immediately after reading the U.S. announcement to determine the status of units sold in Australia. Inverters built for the Australian market are constructed to different specifications than those for other countries and Xantrex confirmed units sold here are not prone to the problem covered under the recall.

Enerdrive, the Australian importer of Xantrex inverters, also followed up with a written statement, saying "Enerdrive can confirm to the Australian market with absolute certainty that the models we supply into Australia being part numbers 864-1030 for the GT 2.8 AU and 864-1039-01 for the GT 5.0 AU are NOT affected by this recall notice. The same goes for their European and Korean models they produce. The construction between the Australian and US models are a rather different design entirely; and most of the units in this recall are from older units.”

The recalled units were manufactured between September 2005 and August 2010. These products were sold under the Xantrex, Sunpower, and General Electric brands in the USA and Canada only.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises affected customers should immediately contact their authorised dealer to arrange a appointment for a free repair of the inverter.
