Melbourne Save Solar Community Forum This Week

Save Solar Forum - Melbourne

The fourth Save Solar Community Forum will be held in the electorate of Deakin, Melbourne, on Thursday, October 9th at 6pm.

The latest in a series of similar events coordinated by the Australian Solar Council, the Save Solar Community Forums are a public display of support designed to bring pressure on the Federal Government to leave the nation’s Renewable Energy Target alone and to inform those attending where the various political parties stand on the RET.

“What we’ve found is today we have the most radical anti-renewables prime minister in Australian history, completely out of touch with the people of Australia on this issue, wanting to make it harder for people to cut their power bills by installing solar,” said John Grimes, CEO Australian Solar Council.

“And this is just not what the people thought they were voting for, and certainly not what they want.”

This week’s event will be at Karralyka Centre, Mines Rd (via Mt Dandenong Rd), Ringwood East between 6pm and 8pm.

Speakers at the forum include Mr. Mark Butler, Shadow Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water and Senator Christine Milne; Leader of the Australian Greens.

Mr. Michael Sukkar (Liberal), Member For Deakin, was also invited to speak at the event, but the invitation was not accepted according to the Australian Solar Council. Senator Glenn Lazarus, Palmer United Party, has also been invited (his attendance is yet to be confirmed).

The Australian Solar Council has been focusing on marginal seats in its Save Solar Forum campaign and each event to date has attracted capacity crowds.

The next Victorian state election is scheduled for 29 November 2014.

The Australian Solar Council is a not-for-profit organization promoting scientific, social and economic development through the environmentally sound use of solar energy. The Council has a chapter in every Australian State and Territory.
